Skopje, October 31, 2025 – The campus of Mother Teresa University in Skopje hosted the international conference titled “Towards a State Plane Coordinate System: Scientific Approaches and Practical Challenges”, and MTU served as host and co-organizer together with the South-East European Research Institute on Geo Sciences (Geo-SEE), under the auspices of the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) and the International Cartographic Association (ICA). The event was also organized in collaboration with the European Group of Surveyors (EGoS), the Bulgarian Cartographic Association, the Croatian Cartographic Society, the Association of Surveyors of Kosovo, and the Chamber of Surveyors of the Republic of Macedonia.

The conference was opened by the Rector of Mother Teresa University in Skopje, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., who emphasized that this event represented an important moment for the regional scientific community, fostering international cooperation and the exchange of knowledge in the fields of geodesy and cartography. He added that MTU remains committed to supporting scientific research and organizing activities that advance science and academic collaboration at both regional and international levels.

Video messages were delivered by Ms. Diane Dumashie from the United Kingdom, President of FIG; and Mr. Georg Gartner from Austria, President of ICA. Welcoming addresses were also delivered by Mr. Nikos Zacharias from Greece, President of the European Group of Surveyors (EGoS); Mr. Subija Izeiroski, President of the Geo-SEE Institute; Mr. Nikola Ribaroski, President of the Chamber of Surveyors of the Republic of Macedonia; and Ms. Lyubka Pashova from Bulgaria, Vice-President of the Conference. The conference was chaired by Full Prof. Bashkim Idrizi, Ph.D., President of the International Scientific Council of the conference.

The event brought together experts and researchers from 14 countries – Austria, Germany, Singapore, the Netherlands, Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Israel – creating an important platform for scientific exchange and regional cooperation.
