Following the ceremony, a panel discussion that focused on solidarity, civic education, and student engagement took place.
Skopje, December 2, 2025 – Mother Teresa University in Skopje, in co-organization with the Red Cross, conducted the Jubilee Plaque presentation ceremony on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Red Cross, as a significant acknowledgment of Mother Teresa University’s continuous contribution to the promotion of humanism, solidarity, and civic education. Following the ceremony, a panel discussiontook place, on the topic “Experiences and Good Practices as a Basis for Developing New Humanitarian Strategies.”
Panelists at the discussion were Assoc. Prof. Fati Iseni, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Education; Assoc. Prof. Aleksandar Petkovski, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Law; Magbule Nuredini, first-cycle student at the Social Work and Social Policy Department; and Suzana Tuneva Paunovska, Secretary of the Red Cross of the City of Skopje. The panel was moderated by Prof. Dr. Fadbi Osmani.
The panelists discussed contemporary approaches of humanitarian organizations, the role of educational institutions in enhancing the culture of solidarity, the importance of youth engagement, and the development of sustainable practices for addressing social and humanitarian challenges.
In his address, the Rector of MTU, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., expressed deep gratitude to the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, emphasizing that the awarding of the plaque is a valuable recognition of the University’s work and dedication. Namely, he stated:
“Today, we are not merely a part of a ceremony, yet part of a shared vision that unites humanism, education, and social responsibility. Humanism is the foundation upon which our University is built, inspired by the figure of Saint Mother Teresa. The jubilee plaque is a great honor but also a responsibility to continue our work in the service of society.”
Rector of MTU, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., added:
“In this era of global challenges, emerges the need for new humanitarian strategies based on knowledge, innovation, and heart. Our students must become not only professionals, but also citizens committed to the common good.”
The Secretary of the Red Cross, Sait Saiti, Ph.D., expressed great appreciation for the cooperation with the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia and the City of Skopje, stating:
The plaque is not merely a symbol of honor, but a confirmation that our path toward humanity, quality education, and inter-institutional cooperation is fair and sustainable. The contribution of our employees, students, and partners is the key to the success of every project of the University.”
He noted that MTU is to continue to create spaces where students and the university community is to engage in humanitarian activities as part of their professional and moral development.
The jubilee plaque, awarded by the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, represents significant recognition of MTU’s efforts in fostering solidarity, collaborating with humanitarian organizations, involving students in community activities, and promoting a culture of humanism.
This recognition serves as strong motivation to continue initiatives and new projects that benefit society.
