Lecturers from the USA, the UK, and the region at MTU Seminar
Skopje, September 29, 2025 – Mother Teresa University in Skopje successfully launched its two-day seminar on institutional capacity building, an important academic initiative featuring renowned lecturers and experts from the United States, the United Kingdom, and the region. The seminar was attended with full engagement of MTU’s academic and administrative staff.
At the seminar’s opening, MTU’s Rector, Lecturer Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., emphasized the importance of transitioning from a fact-based educational system to a skills-based one, underlining that the era of students as “living encyclopedias” is over. He highlighted the need for developing practical skills, soft skills, critical thinking, scientific research, and innovation.
“Our university must ensure that every student, in addition to acquiring knowledge, also gains the competencies required by the labor market. This is our shared mission,” stated Rector Fetaji.
The first-day program included three training modules: Lecturer Andrew Goodspeed, Ph.D., presented on educational transformation; Silvie Shaqiri, M.A., addressed academic assessment reforms, focusing on open-book examinations; Lecturer Christina Wassenaar, Ph.D., Lecturer Dilshad Dayani, Ph.D., and Lecturer Chance Meyer, Ph.D., delivered a session on the role of artificial intelligence in higher education.
The seminar is to continue the following day with each faculty sessions, during which the academic staff is to engage in curriculum analysis and planning. This includes a workshop on integrating employability skills and embedding scientific research as a key student competency.
This activity marks a significant step for MTU toward modernizing study programs, enhancing academic quality, and preparing students for the global labor market, while also strengthening ties with the alumni network and institutional partners.
