Skopje, 22 December 2025 – Тoday, Mother Teresa University in Skopje organized a ceremonial event to mark the 9th anniversary since the beginning of its work, crowning the institution’s successful academic journey. The central event of the celebration was the awarding of the title Doctor Honoris Causa to academician Lecturer Alajdin Abazi, Ph.D., in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the development of culture, education, and scientific research, as well as for his role as one of the most prominent intellectuals of the Albanian people.
In his welcoming address, the Rector of MTU, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., emphasized that this anniversary represents the fulfillment of an educational mission that goes beyond traditional academic activity.
“We are not merely an educational institution, but a community dedicated to knowledge, humanism, and social responsibility. As Mother Teresa used to say, we strive to create positive change through education that transcends borders and cultures. Every lecture, every book, and every scientific research published in this temple of knowledge is a positive wave that stirs inertia and brings progress to society,” stated MTU Rector, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D.
MTU Rector, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D. also added that MTU is to continue to be a center for research and innovation, creating an environment in which every student is inspired to give their very best.
On behalf of the central government, a welcoming speech was delivered by the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Arben Fetai, who described this jubilee as a triumph of the historical aspiration of Albanians in North Macedonia.
Deputy Prime Minister Fetai emphasized that the name of our University reminds us that knowledge without ethics is vain, and also announced the forthcoming signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation that is to enable internships for MTU students within government offices.
The highlight of the ceremony was when the Rector of Mother Teresa University, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., awarded the title Doctor Honoris Causa to academician Lecturer Alajdin Abazi, Ph.D. On this occasion, MTU Rector, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., highly praised academician Abazi as an architect of higher education in the Albanian language in North Macedonia.
Following this solemn act, academician Abazi addressed the audience with an inspiring speech, reflecting on his long professional journey as an engineer, lecturer, and academician. He emphasized the importance of institution-building and the education of younger generations, stating:
“This title does not belong only to me, yet to all those who believed in the vision of education in the Albanian language. My message to students is simple: do not just wait for great moments, do small things with great love instead. Education should be a unifying force, and Mother Teresa University in Skopje today stands as a beacon of knowledge and coexistence in the region.”
On the occasion of this 9th anniversary, for the first time, Mother Teresa Honorary Plaques were awarded. For outstanding contribution to science, Lecturer Skender Kodra, Ph.D., was honored; in the field of education, Lecturer Havzi Mustafa, Ph.D.; and for contribution to the community, a plaque was awarded to Mr. Bajram Imeri of Eftinia Impex company.
This year’s anniversary testifies to the maturity of Mother Teresa University in Skopje as an unwavering stronghold of knowledge and humanity, which continues to produce visionary professionals prepared for the labor market.
