Skopje, February 18, 2026 – At Mother Teresa University in Skopje, the first public debate related to the Draft Law on Higher Education and the Draft Law on Quality in Higher Education was held, in the presence of the Minister of Education and Science, Full Prof. Vesna Janevska, Ph.D. This event represents a significant step for universities affected by these legislative proposals.

The debate was opened by the Rector of MTU, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., who, in his welcoming address, emphasized the importance of organizing such comprehensive discussions and highly appreciated the active participation of the attendees, enabling every voice and opinion regarding the draft laws to be heard.

Mother Teresa University in Skopje is the first university in Macedonia to initiate such a public debate on the draft law, confirming its inter-institutional commitment and academic responsibility in the reform process.

During the debate, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Full Prof. Aleksandar Petkovski, Ph.D., as the Chair of the University Commission for the Analysis and Comments on both draft laws, presented the faculty’s remarks and proposals in written form. These were reviewed, officially approved by the MTU Senate, certified and archived, and personally handed over to the Minister of Education and Science, Full Prof. Vesna Janevska, Ph.D., in the presence of the audience.

Full Prof. Aleksandar Petkovski, Ph.D., emphasized that these comments are the result of the professional analysis conducted by the working group of the University Commission from the Faculty of Law at MTU, which was appointed as the university-level commission for analysis.

This debate confirms the active role of Mother Teresa University in Skopje as an institution contributing to the development of public policy in higher education and strengthening dialogue between state institutions and the academic community.
