Skopje, April 27, 2026 – Today, Mother Teresa University in Skopje and the Institute for War Crimes Committed During the Kosovo War officially formalized their cooperation through an agreement, accompanied by a pubic lecture for students and academic staff.
The visit began with a working meeting, where the Vice-Rector for Education, Full Prof. Fati Iseini, Ph.D., and the Vice-Rector for Finance, Investment, and Development, Assoc. Prof. Bujamin Bela, Ph.D., welcomed the Director of the Institute for War Crimes Committed During the Kosovo War, Atdhe Hetemi, Ph.D., along with his team. During the meeting, discussions focused on the importance of scientifically documenting historical facts and the role that higher education institutions should play in this process.
On behalf of MTU’s Rector, and academic and administrative staff, the event was officially opened by Ful Prof. Fati Iseini, Ph.D., who highly praised the Institute’s mission and the significance of the partnership for collective memory and legal scholarship.
The key moment of the meeting was the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation, which foresees joint engagement in research projects, exchange of documentation, organization of academic roundtables, and providing opportunities for MTU students to be involved in research on transitional justice and the documentation of war crimes.
Following the signing ceremony, the institute’s director, Atdhe Hetemi, Ph.D., delivered a public lecture on the topic: “War Crimes — Why Do We Document Them?”. Through a detailed presentation, Mr. Hetemi explained the necessity of archiving facts, the challenges in the field, and the importance of the process for the future of justice in the region.
The session was moderated by Ms Donka Kaziovska, who guided the discussion and engaged with the audience. In addition to students and professors, the event was attended by representatives of accredited embassies in the country, as well as leaders and members of various non-governmental organizations, giving the event a broad institutional and diplomatic character.
The cooperation represents an important step for MTU on its path toward strengthening its academic profile and connecting the institution with processes of national and historical significance.
