Skopje, October 1, 2026 – Mother Teresa University in Skopje marked the beginning of the new 2026/2027 academic year with a ceremonial event that brought together the university leadership, senior state representatives, academic staff, and the most recent generation of students.
During the ceremony, the Rector of MTU, Full Prof. Bekim Fetaji, Ph.D., emphasized that this day marks not only the beginning of a new academic year, but also the opening of the doors to an important life and professional chapter for the new students.
The event was honored by the presence of distinguished representatives, including the Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Driton Sulejmani; the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Republic of North Macedonia, H.E. Denion Meidani; the Vice-Rector for Teaching, Full Prof. Fati Iseni, Ph.D.; as well as deans, vice-deans, members of the Senate, lecturers, and administrative staff.
The Rector emphasized that their presence confirms the significant institutional importance of MTU and the strong state and local support that MTU enjoys in fulfilling its educational mission.
In his address, the Vice-Rector for Teaching, Full Prof. Fati Iseni, Ph.D., highlighted the essential character of the institution, emphasizing that a university is not merely an educational institution, but also an epistemic space in which knowledge is constantly confronted with questioning, criticism, argumentation, and scientific verification.
The Deputy Minister of Education, . Driton Sulejmani, encouraged the students not to fear challenges and not to view university merely as an obligation to pass exams, but as a place where they are to build their professional character, while using technology and AI responsibly.
The Ambassador, H.E. Denion Meidani, referred to the figure of Mother Teresa, who was born in Skopje, to illustrate the importance of dedication to others. In this context, drawing on a thought by U.S. President Kennedy, he reminded the students that the privilege of graduating also carries the responsibility of keeping the doors open for others.
For his part, MTU Rector presented the modern opportunities that Mother Teresa University offers its students, including the university library, which holds more than 5,000 scientific publications and serves as an important resource for research; MTU’s Career Center, which serves as a bridge to the labor market through a dedicated career portal; as well as international opportunities, including a network of dual degree study programs and Erasmus+ exchange programs.
The event was moderated by Ms. Donka Kaziovska, who wished all new students, as well as the rest of the student body, a successful, productive, and inspiring academic year, encouraging students to transform knowledge into a force for change in society.
