Skopje, October 10, 2024 – On the premises of Mother Teresa University in Skopje, a public lecture by the famous Lecturer Jean-Michel De Waele, Ph.D., from Belgium on the topic “Eu Integration and the Rule of Law: Lessons From Previous Enlargement Reports,”  moderated by Lecturer Enver Abdullahi, Ph.D., was successfully carried out.

At the opening of the lecture, the Rector of MTU, Lecturer Izet Zeqiri, Ph.D., greeted the attendees and wished that this type of model of teaching political science would serve students as additional expertise during their studies at MTU.

The Deputy President of the Government in Charge of Good Governance, Arben Fetai, advised students and attendees to benefit from the lecture by Lecturer Jean-Michel De Waele, Ph.D., wishing them success in whatever they have doubts about the topic of conversation.

Lecturer Jean-Michel De Waele, Ph.D., as an outstanding expert in the field of political science and with many years of experience in International Politics and European Studies, addressed many relevant issues in the country and in the Western Balkans, among other things, strengthening the rule of law, merit-based integration, the importance of EU integration, the historical context of EU enlargement, etc.

The conclusions highlighted by Lecturer Jean-Michel De Waele, Ph.D. are the following: “The EU and the Western Balkans are interested in the expansion of the European Union in the Western Balkans, as well as the post-communist countries, members of the European Union that experienced political stabilization, economic and social growth, and the standard of living of their inhabitants begin to catch up with that of Western Europe.”

Lecturer Jean-Michel De Waele, Ph.D., also stated that universities can play a useful role and that each side should understand the fears of the other; that is, we should get to know each other better and overcome stereotypes.

After the lecture, Lecturer Jean-Michel De Waele, Ph.D., provoked great interest for interactive discussions among the attendees, i.e., the academic staff and the students majoring in political science.
